Vibration and Noise

Vibration and Noise

LAEDE carries out vibration monitoring that serves as a basis for assessing user comfort, structural safety and obtaining the modal properties (natural frequencies, vibration modes and damping) in civil structures such as bridges, viaducts, buildings, bleachers, tracks, and so on. The excitation of the structure can be environmental or forced and accelerometers positioned at strategic points of the structure are used for measurement.

The analysis is carried out by IEME Brasil team of engineers, using the Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) and the Classical Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA), respectively.

Noise measurements are performed for environmental control, where levels are compared with standards and / or with local or state regulations for population comfort. Additionally, they serve as input for acoustic projects, such as noise barriers along railways and highways. For acoustic projects, IEME Brasil elaborates mathematical models for calculations and solutions.

Main projects

  • Sao Paulo Metro
    • Line 4-Yellow and Line 5-Purple (Lot 3): measurement of noise and vibration in adjacent buildings for subsequent development of vibration and noise attenuation systems by IEME Brasil Engineering.
    • Line 2-Green: measurement of noise and vibrations from the stretch east of Alto de Ipiranga Station to the end of the tunnel east of Vila Prudente Station, including the Tamanduateí maintenance and parking yard and its access roads for preparation, by the Engineering at IEME Brasil, for the basic project of the superstructure of the permanent way with attenuation of noise and vibrations.
    • Line 2-Green: carrying out monitoring and forced vibration tests to investigate possible solutions to dampen vibrations and secondary noise in the MASP Auditorium, caused by the train fleet, in partnership with Engineering at IEME Brasil.
  • VLT Carioca: noise and vibration measurement for studies and executive design of vibration and secondary noise attenuation systems for the permanent way carried out by Engineering at IEME Brasil.
